The Restful Nurse Course

Course Overview:

The Restful Nurse Course is a self-paced continuing education course designed to support nurses in cultivating sustainable practices for mental, physical, and spiritual well-being.  Through five audio modules with supplemental video, workbook activities, and self-assessments, participants will explore the science of stress resilience, strategies to restore physical vitality, methods to cultivate peace of mind, and practices for spiritual renewal.  By the end of the course, learners will integrate these tools and create their own personalized Rest Care Plan to support resilience, reduce burnout, and sustain their health and professional longevity. 

Course Objectives:

  • Through a self-assessment, learners will identify the type of rest (mental, physical, or spiritual) they most need in their current season and prioritize strategies to address that area of greatest need. 

  • Identify and apply strategies and tools that support mental, physical, and spiritual rest.

  • By the end of the course, learners will create their unique Rest Care Plan by designing and implementing sustainable rhythms in both professional and personal settings by integrating evidence-informed strategies for mental, physical, and spiritual renewal.

Building Stress

In this foundational module, you’ll explore the nervous system and how the physical symptoms of stress manifest in your work and home environment. You will complete a brief health assessment to understand how stress and unrest are impacting your body.  This module sets the stage for building resiliency by creating physical, mental, and spiritual restful rhythms. 

Module two

Cultivating Peace of Mind

Discover the critical importance of mental rest in your role as a nurse.  You’ll learn practices for both work and home, such as mindfulness and somatic exercises, to help you stay grounded and fully present.  By cultivating peace of mind, you’ll enhance your focus, reduce burnout, and maintain a healthier work-life balance. 

Module three

Restoring Your Physical Vitality

Learn how to renew your energy and well-being through physical practices.  You’ll focus on incorporating joyful movement into your daily routine, setting the stage for quality sleep, and making nourishing meal choices.  By prioritizing your physical vitality, you’ll enhance your stamina, improve overall health, and maintain the strength needed to care for yourself and others effectively.

Module four

 Renewing Your Spirit

In this section, we delve into Christian spiritual practices like prayer, gratitude, and meditation, which provide a deep sense of peace and hope beyond what you can achieve on your own.  These practices bring purpose and meaning to your work and life. It is ultimately through Jesus that your self-care practices can truly renew your spirit and sustain you in your journey. 

Module FIVE

The Rested and Regulated Nurse

This final module brings together all of the insights and practices from the course to help you develop your own personalized rest care plan.  By integrating physical, mental, and spiritual restful rhythms, you will create a comprehensive approach to becoming The Restful Nurse!
